I saw another acceptance on Duotrope yesterday. I wonder if this means that they're doing the eligibility confirmations on a rolling/piecemeal basis, or if folks are just being slow reporting to Duotrope (that is, if you haven't gotten an acceptance by now, are you done for?)
Friend of a friend of a friend who was accepted said final list will likely be posted today (8/13/12) or tomorrow. They sent out cceptances last week and are currently checking eligibility. And while I know I am doing the same thing as the Duotrope people, I think everybody who was accepted was told to keep quiet, so this is all very frustrating.
Anonymous #4 - Don't let it kill you! We're notifying in batches to determine eligibility, but running into some snafus due to spam filters and some of our finalists being away from email. Hence the delay.
We do our best to mercifully keep the time between the notification and official announcement as short as possible. We also try not to torture poets in the later batches, which is why we ask notified finalists to keep their news to themselves. (Posting an acceptance on Duotrope counts as spilling the beans, by the way. Can't say I'm pleased with that.) But these complications make it difficult for us.
Anyway, yes, the announcement should be posted this week. Just not today. Thanks for your patience, guys.
I'm Anonymous #3, and I apologize for adding fuel to the fire, but my friend said not to say anything or he'd kill me, and then that stuff on Duotrope and two of the MFA blogs came up and I was all WTF? Man can't even update his Facebook status while people elsewhere are skywriting! Skywriting! No exaggeration. (A little.) But the apology is genuine. I was mad, tho not at BNP.
"'Notifying in batches' meaning, there's still hope if you haven't yet heard?"
No. I doubt any outliers exist, at this point, for acceptance notifications. For those of us who haven't received a response, we've another year to write and cull our best.
Congrats to the poets selected! Lingering question: Does BNP send notification emails? I know my poems didn't make the cut this year, but I haven't yet received a rejection---or even a notification that the results had been posted (I even checked my spam folder). Also, according to Manuscript Hub, the status of my sub is still "Open." Is this normal lag time or do submissions occasionally get lost in the ether? Thanks for clarifying!
Thanks for checking out our Best New Poets blog. For more information on the anthology, see www.bestnewpoets.org. To order an individual copy of Best New Poets, amazon.com, barnesandnoble.com, or other online retailers are your best option. For classroom or bulk orders, contact the University of Virginia Press.

ReplyDeleteOh they probably just misspelled my email address, I should re-send that to them... :/
ReplyDeleteI knew I shouldn't have written that poem about the Dickmans being gimmicks.

ReplyDeleteI have experienced the same thing, Nellz. I figure they just forgot to clear the manuscript hub site.
